Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born in London’s Tottenham district on May 5, 1988, to an English mother, Penny Adkins, and a Welsh father, Marc Evans. Adele was raised by her mother after Evans abandoned her when she was two years old.
She began singing at the age of four and professes to be fascinated with voices. Adele, who was nine years old at the time, and her mother, who had found work as a furniture maker and an adult-learning event organizer by then, relocated to Brighton on England’s south coast in 1997.
Adele is an English singer and songwriter best known for her stage name. Adele received a record deal with XL Recordings after graduating from the BRIT School of Arts in 2006.
Her debut album, 19, was released in 2008 and produced the top-five songs “Chasing Pavements” and “Make You Feel My Love” in the United Kingdom.
The album was certified 8 platinum in the United Kingdom and triple platinum in the United States. Adele received both the Brit Award for Rising Star and the Grammy Award for Best New Artist.
Adele created a three-track demo for a class project while at BRIT, and a friend of hers shared it on MySpace. It rapidly drew the attention of executives at XL Recordings after garnering over 10,000 plays on the platform.
They contacted the singer and, thinking they were interested in giving her a job in A&R and just knowing the record company Virgin, she attended the meeting with a friend, claiming to Rolling Stone: “I wanted to help other people sell records.
“I walked in expecting to acquire a scouting job, but they said, ‘We want to sign you.'”
Richard Russel, the head of Adele’s record company, then went to see her at a modest west London gig, where he was pleased by her confidence as a performer.
XL Recordings signed Adele to a record deal in November 2006, barely four months after she graduated from high school.
